1.2.10 Just announced as Finalists in the Scottish Hotel Awards - Good for the Soul Catagory! 16th Nov 2009: Galloway Forest Park has been officially unveiled as the first Dark Sky Park outside of the USA! The award, announced by the International Dark Sky Association, confirmed Galloway as one of the best places for stargazing in the world, and all this cold is providing some spectacular skies!. Welcome to Hillcrest, and to Wigtown. Set on the southern edge of Scotland`s book town, in a stunning part of Glorious Galloway - the perfect place to relax and unwind. The house was built in 1875 and retains much of its original Victorian character and charm, with open views over Wigtown Bay Nature Reserve - Britain`s largest local nature reserve, and only a leisurely stroll to both the harbour with its birdhide and the town centre with its many bookshops. We offer 6 ensuite bedrooms, a southerly facing lounge and a large dining room, all of which makes us an excellent base for walking, golfing, cycling, fishing, shooting or for those who just wish to relax and enjoying the fresh Wigtownshire air and explore the many bookshops in town. So if you are looking for a peaceful break for two, or having exclusive use of the house for a larger group - we are the perfect choice in this beautiful part of South West Scotland. We are not increasing our charges for 2010 and continue to offer the same excellent hospitality on which we have built our reputation. Bed and breakfast accommodation is from £32.50pp, and we also offer award winning home cooked evening meals. For those coming wildfowling etc, we offer police-approved Brattensound secure gun storage, a drying room, packed lunches, flasks and 2 kennels. 2005 saw Hillcrest reviewed by HotelReviewScotland.com which resulted in the 2008 Hotels of the Year Awards for our food. The original summary review commented that: "Hillcrest House is today operated by Deborah and Andrew Firth who have over the last 2 years developed their own style of hospitality. Expect the informal and even a touch of Bohemian; also confidently expect terrific eating based to a remarkable degree on local to very local produce. It’s not a posh place but is rather full of character." |
