The Area Wigtownshire has it all!! Shooting, fishing, golfing at any one of our 29 courses, mountain biking at 7stanes, horse riding, Britain`s largest local nature reserve on the doorstep (literally), 300sq miles of Galloway Forest Park to explore, Standing Stones, 5000 year old Cairns and tank or 4x4 off road driving. For the slightly less energetic there are 16 or so Gardens and Nurseries, Gem Rock Museum, Monreith Animal Park, Indoor Bowling, Birdwatching or even ice cream making at the Cream O`Galloway! In Wigtown itself there`s our bookshops, cafe`s, gift shops, a live link in the County Buildings to watch our Osprey, one of the oldest bowling greens, and the widest main street. There are book Festivals in May and September. Just down the road at Bladnoch there is Scotland`s most southerly distillery, and The Isle of Whithorn & St. Ninians Cave - the cradle of Christianity in Scotland - are a 20 minute drive away. With less average rainfall than the Lake District,a climate warmed by the Gulf Stream, getting in a queue of 3 cars behind a tractor constitutes a traffic jam, and life is lived at a different pace altogether - give us a try!
